Lawyers for Literacy Book Drive

Lawyers for Literacy Book Drive

Law firms, legal departments, individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate in the Book Drive by collecting gently-used and new books for readers of all ages, with an emphasis this year on children’s books. Donated books will be sent to charitable organizations throughout the Houston area, including shelters and hospitals.

Books Can Be:

• New or gently-used
• Hardback or paperback
• Fiction or nonfiction
• Appropriate for every age or reading level (especially children’s books, baby to teen!)

Please, no magazines or law manuals.

Collect books throughout the Month of August!

Feel free to spread the word with the HBA’s promotional flyers:

Drop off book donations — in banker boxes weighing less than 50 lbs. — at the Heritage Plaza loading dock on Dallas Street, September 3 through 13, 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.

As one of HBA President Benny Agosto, Jr.’s initiatives for the year, the committee also is collecting monetary donations to refurbish and purchase books for the library at Shearn Elementary School. A generous anonymous donor will match $15,000 in donations to support this mission. The committee also will build Little Free Libraries in low-income neighborhoods throughout Houston.

Make a donation online via credit card now through September 30 at www.hba.org/library. 100% of donations go to the library project at Shearn Elementary School. Cash or check made out to the Houston Bar Foundation (HBF) with “Literacy” in the memo are also accepted. Mail to Houston Bar Association, ATTN: Lawyers for Literacy, 1111 Bagby Street, FLB#200, Houston, Texas 77002.
